Getting started
Three steps from a microphone to captions on the big screen.
What is the difference between Transcribe and Translate?
Transcribe shows the words in the language being spoken. Best when the audience understands the speaker.
Translate listens to any language and shows the captions in your chosen language. It waits for enough of the sentence, so 3 to 5 seconds is normal.
How do I show captions on the LED, projector or OBS?
Press Open display next to the mic and drag that window to the screen. In OBS, add it as a Browser source. Style, size and position are in the panel's Display tab.
Can I switch language during the event?
Yes. Change the language next to Transcribe or Translate while live. The captions switch over without ending the session.
Where are the transcripts saved?
Every line is saved to your workspace as it happens, so nothing is lost if the browser closes. Open the event to download .txt, or .srt and .vtt subtitle files on Premium.
Pause or New session: which one?
Pause stops captions for a break and keeps the same session. New session stops, clears the panel and the display, and starts fresh.
Captions on phones
The audience reads live captions on their own phone, from one QR code.
How do people join?
- In Live, open Audience, go to Phone captions and press Start.
- Press Show QR on a screen, or read out the 6-letter room code.
- People scan the QR. It opens in the phone browser, no app to install.
Transcribe or Translate on phones?
Transcribe: phones show the same language as the main screen.
Translate: tick the languages people can pick on their phone, up to 15 more. Each extra language adds a little to the per-minute rate. Each sentence is translated once for everyone, so it stays fast for 10 or 5,000 phones.
How many people can join?
Pick how many people you expect at the same time, from 50 up to 5,000. For more than 5,000, contact us and we prepare a dedicated setup.
If more people come than planned, captions keep running for everyone. The room is billed at the size that covers them.
Can I change the room during the event?
Yes. Change the number of people or the languages in the Phone captions or Q&A tab and press Save changes. Each one has its own Turn off button. Phones update right away.
Do phones need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
No. Phones can use the venue Wi-Fi or mobile data. Only the laptop-only demo mode needs the same Wi-Fi.
Live Q&A
The audience asks from the same QR code. You choose what goes on stage.
How do questions arrive?
People open the Ask tab on their phone and send a question. It appears in the panel's Q&A tab, translated to your language and grouped with similar questions.
Can I approve questions before they show?
Yes, turn on Approve before showing. New questions stay hidden from other phones until you approve them. Votes then push the best ones up.
What are Moderator view and Stage monitor?
Moderator view is a separate screen for the person curating questions: Incoming, Queue and On stage.
Stage monitor is for a screen facing the speaker or MC. It shows the question on stage in large text.
Can I run Q&A without captions?
Yes. Phone captions and Q&A are separate: start Q&A in its own tab and leave phone captions off. Phones go straight to the Ask tab.
How is spam stopped?
Each phone and room has a limit on questions and votes, with a security check for suspicious traffic. Moderators can hide any question.
Credits
Everything is paid with credits from your workspace balance.
How are credits used?
| What | Credits per minute |
|---|---|
| Main screen · Transcribe | 1 |
| Main screen · Translate | 2 |
The main screen counts only while someone speaks. Silence is not counted.
How much do phones use?
Phone captions and Q&A are turned on separately. Each uses credits per minute while it is on, based on how many people you expect:
| People at once | Phone captions | + each language | Q&A | Once per event |
|---|
What if credits run out during an event?
Live never stops in the middle of an event. It keeps running on up to 60 backup credits (about 60 minutes of Transcribe), settled at your next top-up. Owners and admins get an email at 60, 30, 10 and 0 credits left.
How do I top up?
Go to Plan & credits and pick a top-up. Pay with QRIS, virtual account or card. Credits arrive as soon as the payment is confirmed.
Will my plan price change?
Your plan price and monthly credits are locked for your subscription period. Any new price applies only at renewal, with at least 30 days' notice.
Troubleshooting
Phones can't open the QR on the venue Wi-Fi
Some venue networks block phones from reaching each other or block live connections. Ask people to switch to mobile data, or ask the venue to allow it. Phones fall back to a slower mode automatically when live connections are blocked.
Captions are late
Check the Internet chip under the mic. If it shows Unstable, move to a wired connection or a stronger network. Translate is 3 to 5 seconds by design.
The mic is too quiet, too far, or the room echoes
Click the Audio chip to run a mic test. Bring the mic closer to the speaker, use the venue mixer output when you can, and avoid laptop built-in mics in large halls.
"Audio not started"
The browser needs permission to use the mic. Allow microphone access in the address bar, then press the mic again.
